Trauma Informed Yoga
with Jeremy Bell Registered Psychologist & Certified Yoga Instructor
May 4 – June 29 (no class June 8 & 22)
10:30am – 12:00pm
Many of us have gone through traumatic experiences that can leave a lasting imprint on our mind and body. These impacts can include chronic muscle tension, anxiety, depression and a disconnection to our bodies. Trauma informed yoga is a process designed to help individuals achieve healing by rediscovering a sense of peace and safety in their body.
A growing body of research supports the effectiveness of a regular yoga practice for decreasing the symptoms of trauma. Jeremy Bell, Registered Psychologist and Certified Yoga Instructor, will blend elements from both psychological and yogic practices to help participants develop their own personalized toolbox for self-healing.
This class is opened to any adults (18+) interested in learning and experiencing trauma informed yoga. It’s designed to help individuals with any form of trauma, and no previous yoga experience is required to participate.
Sessions run for 90 minutes. The first 30 minutes will include an educational component on trauma as well as strategies for coping and self-healing. This will be followed by 60 minutes of yoga practices intended to promote self-awareness and safety in the body. Participants will not be asked to share stories about their past or traumatic experiences.
This class is not intended to be a substitute for individual trauma therapy, but participants may benefit from taking this class in conjunction with personal trauma therapy. Resources will be provided for community supports.
